In Pakistan, beforing going on travel .. people often recite some verses of Holy Quran and bid words of prayer to God in order to reach safe and sound to the desired desination. Even though reciting verses of Holy Book and praying to God for 'safety' cause no harm, yet performing these acts at the expense/cost of 'one's responsibilities/duties/ respect/care for the traffic rules and regulation ' is obviously not an intelligent, judicious and sensible act.
To recite verses and to bid words of prayers for safety is desirable, yet to be negligent of one's responsibility to take care of traffic rules and regulation is absolutely wrong/insensible/ destructive. Religious teachings are for bringing light/ understanding/ awareness/sense of responsibility in the life. It is not about justifying our carelessness and running away from responsibilities. Life is all about responsibilities that we owe to ourselves. Human nature tends to have recourse to short-cuts in life. We are prone to the temptations that makes us free of our duties and responsibilities. No matter how hard to swallow the sour pills of personal duties and responsibilities .. we can't ,under the pretext of religious acts, do away with life's responsibilities. We have to eventually own our life and remain responsible for all that happens to us and our surrounding.
Reason (faculty to think, understand, observe) is the greatest gift that God has bestowed upon us to guide us through the labyrinth of life with all its ups and downs. Not to utilize it is the greatest injustice that we can do to it. Blind faith and mechanical behavior of bidding hallow arabic verses without understanding its meaning and substance is not a thing that Almighty demands of us. Conscious and intelligent steps that we perform with all our intents and purposes in the service of God is the only way to be rewarded for at the end of the day.
